How are the roads like from banff to aberdeen?

Can anyone tell me if they are driveable? My son went to stay at his dad's for Christmas and was due home to ayrshire last week but he keeps saying he can't take him back due to the weather being that bad that the road from turriff to aberdeen is undriveable. Just wanted to know if the roads are really that bad?
