Benefits of super shoes for 45 year old recreational runner?
45 year old male. Recreational runner for 20 years. Running 50-75 km/week. 2 interval sessions and 1 long run per week, the rest 10-12 km easy pace. Recent 10K result about 40:30. Have had some achilles problems which seems to be under control for the moment. Mid-/forefoot stride. Training to participate in road races, 5K to half marathon.
Right now I use a pair of Asics Novablast 3 (easy/long run) and one pair of Saucony Endorphin Shift 3 (intervals). I've never used any "super shoes" (carbon plate and modern foam) but I am considering it. Unfortunately I live in a small town where the sports equipment stores don't really have that many super shoes to try out.
Questions to runners of approximately my ability and training volume:
- Do you find that you get any benefits from the super shoes?
- Better race times?
- Are they more fun to run in when doing interval/tempo training?
- Do they reduce soreness and wear on the legs?
- Have you tried them and decided that carbon plated shoes were not for you?
- Any models you would like to recommend?
