Upstairs neighbor complained about garlic smell from my cooking

A couple days ago, my neighbor came down to complain about my use of garlic when cooking. He has a vintage furniture business and I guess the garlic smell lingers on the upholstery. I want to be considerate but also feel like it's ridiculous to basically tell me that he doesn't approve of me using something such a commonplace ingredient. What is a good resolution to this? Would me using an air purifier in the kitchen help?

Update: I made potato leek soup with like 6 cloves of garlic because fuck him
