Canada should offer permanent residency to all American "Dreamers" and university graduates in STEM fields to strengthen its workforce and drive innovation.

The "dreamers" are for the most part people that are no different than average Canadians, they grew up in the USA, speak fluent english, attended some of the best schools and all contribute greatly to the American economy. The only problem is, they are forever stuck in a legal limbo due to their immigration status.

Similarly, the USA is increasingly defunding government funding to STEM fields, and Canada could step in and attract some of the brightest minds that studied in some of the best educational institutions.

I strongly believe that it should be far easier for well educated americans to move to Canada than is it is for uneducated people from developing countries. We now must begin putting the interests of Canada and Canadians before the interests of those who live in the developing world.

Now is the time to be unapologetically pro-Canada, we have to be smart, and we have to poach the best and brightest from the USA during this time of turmoil and uncertainty.

Canada did this before when we took in thousands of American draft-doggers, they went on to contribute immensely to Canada.

We can do the same today for the Dreamers and those with STEM degrees.

We have a once in a generation opportunity to permanently alter the Canadian workforce and economy by tapping into an incredibly valuable resource.

Canadian politicians need to be visionaries.
