I Hate Being Such A Stickler For Accuracy
It's me - the person who asked about pre-natal care in the 1980's.
I'm thinking of writing another fic set in the 80's (specifically in Soviet Russia surrounding a father and son and the son's medical problems), and I haven't even gotten started on it because I want to make sure absolutely everything is as accurate as possible for the time period. I haven't even started on the pregnancy one yet because of it, too.
I have a lot of WIP's that I've never finished because of it, but I know if I say 'fuck it' and just write, I'll be bogged down by all of the details of setting and characterizations. I think it comes from how I wrote characters however I wanted when I first started writing back in middle school - characterization and settings be damned, and then I completely overcorrected when my writing style matured.
Anyone else like this?
