Are the folks who I’ve been seeing lately suggesting that we need IQ tests prior to voting in federal elections unaware of the history behind literacy tests for voting in the US, or do they just not care?
I’ve been seeing a lot of people suggest we need IQ tests implemented at the polls in response to Trump’s election victory. While I’m just as displeased as the next guy, I was incredibly thrown off the first time I saw this suggested. I’ve since seen it proposed atleast a dozen times. Maybe others feel differently, but from my perspective, any law that came into place as a means of attaining equal rights in this country feels strange being challenged. Even if its challenge now has nothing to do with race. So do you folks think that I’m overthinking this by trying to attach historical analysis to it, or are the folks suggesting this change either ignorant or apathetic about the historic connotation.
