Has Shimokitazawa really become that bad or are people overexaggerating?
Planning my third trip to Japan this December. 8 days in total in Tokyo. First time with s/o. Was there the first time 2015 then 2017. Loved Shimokitazawa then and obviously a place I've hyped and been looking forward to return to with my partner. Didn't only enjoy the many fun and unique vintage shops but also the general vibe, vinyl stores, food etc.
Anyway, I am VERY surprised to see the amount of hate it is getting on Japan and Tokyo subreddits. Has it really become that bad or will I still enjoy it, as in is it still worth seeing, if i enjoyed it so much the first times? I understand it has become quite gentrified as well as it's more curated vintage than actual thrifting. But God I still loved wandering around those strange stores, getting lost in the record stores, and I also remember having great food there (some yakitori + sashimi place which was one of the best meals of the second trip, can't recall the name tho :( ...)
Note. We will be staying close to Shinsen st., aka 10-15 min walk from Shibuya. So getting to Shimokita will be easy and not out of the way.
