[WTS] Custom Made Flint Knife on Antler Handle.

Timestamp

This is probably a little different from what's usually posted here, but I hope you like it!

EDIT: Forgot to add price. $70 shipped in USA

As the title says, I'm selling a custom made flint knife that I made just last week. The blade is made from heat treated Burlington chert from Illinois, and the handle is from a section of deer antler tine. The blade is hafted using natural pine pitch glue, and it is wrapped with two layers of deer backstrap sinew to strengthen the connection. Lastly, one more layer of pine glue was applied to keep the sinew from unraveling and to make it a bit more water-resistant. The length from base of handle to tip of blade is just about 4 inches. I've written the initials of my shop (Stone & Steel) on the butt of the handle, along with the year of manufacture.

Now, if you're not familiar with stone knives, they're a bit different than steel in a few ways. For one, in order to have a sharp edge, the blade needs to essentially be serrated. This means it probably won't pass the paper test as any steel knife would, since it's constructed differently. But it should work just fine as a skinning knife - or, obviously, as a display piece! I would describe this as decently sharp, but I haven't used them for a lot work. To resharpen, you would need to chip in new serrations with something like a nail. They are not sharpened using a whetstone or anything similar, but it's not too difficult to learn the correct process with some practice.

Let me know if you're interested! Obviously I'm biased, but I love selling these and getting them in the hands of people who are fascinated by this primitive stuff. Oh, and if you do buy this, I have a video of me making this exact knife from start to finish that I'd be happy to send you! I should be able to ship tomorrow or the next day.

Take care, and God Bless!
