Teenager dies after crushing butterfly and injecting liquid into body in Brazil
The death of teenager Davi Nunes Moreira, 14 years old, in Bahia, after injecting a liquid with water and remains of a butterfly in his leg is being investigated by the Civil Police of Bahia. The young man was admitted to two hospitals in the southwestern region of the state, and died last Thursday, 13. He presented symptoms such as pain and redness in the body.
The case happened in Planalto. Davi’s father realized that his son had a bruise on his leg a week before hospitalization. The young man lamed, and when questioned, he said he had hurt himself playing.
The father took Davi to the Municipal Hospital of Planalto, where they lived, after the boy vomited. Davi was hospitalized for seven days and then was transferred to the General Hospital of Vitória da Conquista (HGVC), where he died on the 13th.
In HGVC, the teenager told a doctor that he kneaded a butterfly, mixed the remains of the insect in water and used a syringe, which he bought at a pharmacy, to inject the liquid into the leg. He didn’t explain the reason.
The Civil Police reported that the 1ª Territorial Police Station of Vitória da Conquista investigates Davi’s death. “According to the report of the occurrence, the boy injected the contents of a macerated butterfly with the help of a syringe into his right leg. The fact occurred in the city of Planalto. The guides for the work of the Technical Police Department (DPT) have been issued and the expert reports will clarify the cause of death,” says the note.
The young man’s wake and burial took place last Friday, 14.
