Worst first day ever
I have been in childcare for 6 years. From interning in special needs classrooms, to being head teachers of daycare rooms, I've been an ABA technician, I've babysat, I've been an oncall emergency nanny. Today was my first day as a full time nanny.
To start off I'm horribly sick. I texted mb the day before and told her I was fine with coming in because it was basically just sniffles but it got so much worse overnight. I figured NBD I'll wear a mask and bring my dayquil with me. I was miserable but determined and MB wfh so she offered to support me as much as possible.
The day gets a weird slow start so kids are thrown off their schedule, everything is a little bit off and cranky af. We started lunch late and it turns out 4g has chronic stomach issues and if she eats late it's horribly painful for her and she can barely eat. MB coaxed her through it while I work with 2b feeling entirely useless and guilty for not understanding how important those snacks were earlier.
After 2bs nap it's time to go outside. Its hotter than I planned on so I text MB asking where the sunblock is while we just sit in the shade on the side of the house. I COMPLETELY FORGOT SHE WARNED ME THERE'S WASPS IN THE BACKYARD. 2b toddles off towards the backyard, as I turn to tell him he needs to come back he starts screaming bloody murder.
I get him in my arms and I'm trying to calm him down so I can figure out what's going on when MB pops out the front door to give us the sun screen. She immediately takes over and gets him and sister inside. I just do my best to stay out of the way and respond to requests for icepacks and medicine while 2b is screaming as loud as a dang fog horn.
MB realizes she doesn't have the right medicine and can't get the right medicine in our area without a prescription (meanwhile his head is swelling FAST) so she says she taking him to the emergency doctor ASAP. I help pack the two kids in the car and she tells me to just lock the door behind me after I grab my bags and she'll see me tomorrow.
I want to cry.
I'm about to call in tomorrow because I'm convinced if I had been on the top of my game I wouldn't have messed up like this and gotten him hurt.
P. S. I have no fever and have not since the beginning, I did test for covid just in case and it was negative.
Edit-- MB just texted letting me know he is okay. Also apparently she more blames DB than me because she asked him to take care of the wasps ages okay, but I still 1000% blame myself for not even remembering the wasps were around the corner.
