Undeserved Hate and Prejudice toward Honkai Verse
Recently, there has been a lot of hate and criticism toward the Honkai Verse due to its steadily rising power scaling. Many people say it is "overwanked." Most of these complaints stem from chain scaling, statement scaling, and the existence of insanely powerful characters who don’t look that strong at first glance.
While some of these complaints hold some truth, does the current hate toward the Honkai Verse actually make sense? When I first read and played Honkai-related games and manga, I was baffled by how underrated this verse was. I couldn’t believe that Honkai Impact 3rd characters were scaled at multi-solar system level at most, despite some of them displaying powers comparable to Tier 1, with numerous statements referencing higher dimensions.
I assume most people who dislike the Honkai Verse feel this way because of how powerful it has become lately. But in reality, Honkai Verse has always been this strong—it just wasn’t scaled properly in the past (probably due to wiki vandalism). With the recent release of Honkai: Star Rail, many Honkai scalers have been motivated to re-evaluate the verse and scale it properly. That’s why Honkai is getting so much attention now.
Is it overwanked? Yes, but not as bad as people make it out to be. Honestly, I’m still skeptical about the recent 1-A+ scaling. Aside from that, the Honkai Verse is a solid Higher Tier 1. If you take the time to read the latest Honkai Cosmology Explanation Blog, I’m sure you’ll be convinced.
The Honkai Verse isn’t like your average light novel that repeatedly claims to be "outerversal" or constantly talks about transcending dimensions. It has maintained its cosmology consistency since 2014, from the release of Houkai Gakuen up to the present day with Honkai: Star Rail (something that DC can’t do :3). Despite having an insanely powerful cosmology, the story remains solid, and the power scaling aspect has never ruined the storytelling. In fact, they still haven’t revealed much, so we don’t even know the full extent of the entire cosmology.
What's bad?
The real problem lies in recent HSR chain scaling and Genshin’s multi-solar system scaling.
- Honkai: Star Rail’s star-level chain scaling is pretty weird. Lore-wise, Belobog characters should be at most building level, yet they became star level just because they fought Dan Heng, who once killed a monster capable of swallowing a star. Pretty absurd, right? Even as a Honkai fan, I know this is BS.
- The same goes for Genshin’s multi-solar system scaling. Hexenzirkel created a space with a starry sky, and people scaled that to Archons just because Hexenzirkel once challenged Venti (even though they never actually fought).
Most people who hate the Honkai Verse don’t actually know or understand it—they just heard these criticisms from others. It’s easy to spread misinformation, and people who hear it might assume that Honkai scaling is complete BS. I’ve seen a lot of misinformation about Honkai Verse being spread around.
Conclusion
The Honkai Verse isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. I hope you can see my point.
This world is in chaos. It is neither fair nor sensible. It wrongs heroes and breeds scum.
