should i withdraw from gates scholarship
i'm incredibly thankful to have matched with upenn, which has offered me almost an entire full ride with the exception of a $2,500 federal work-study according to their financial aid page on qb's website.
i've also been chosen as a gates semi-finalist which i'm also very grateful for, however, gates is also a fully funded scholarship and upenn's outside funding policy states: "First, outside scholarship funds are applied to reduce or eliminate your work-study award for the academic year. If your outside funding is larger than your work-study eligibility, the remaining amount will replace university grant funding."
i know i won't have to do a work-study by getting the gates scholarship, but knowing the rest of the funds won't go to my personal use makes me feel bad that i'm taking this opportunity away from someone who needs it more than me.
i also don't think i'm able to attend the summer institute they're hosting as i'll be overseas for the majority of the summer before i move into my dorm at penn.
should i just withdraw my application then or should i continue through semi-finals?
