On an ill-starred expedition to chart the unmapped waters of the Abyssal Sea, Alexander and his crew stumbled upon an ancient, mysterious shipwreck. Among the ruins, they found an ominous artifact: a blackened skull said to have belonged to some ancient necromancer. Unbeknownst to him, Alexander had turned on the skull's curse, binding his soul to the realm of the undead.

He turned into a skeleton, with a grimacing skull being what his face had turned into now, and named himself Captain Necroshade. This cursed artifact allowed him to manipulate shadows and dark energies and twist the very essence of death as he saw it. His uniform, which used to be so clean with accents of gold, became black as the abyss and carried chains upon chains speaking volumes of his specter-like existence.

Free from the shackles of mortality, Captain Necroshade took on the role of guardian in the Netherrealm-a twisted mirror of the world of the living. He commands an ethereal navy of ghostly vessels that patrol the edges of life and death, preventing any soul from escaping their fate. Despite his gruesome appearance, Captain Necroshade is not a malevolent being; he maintains a strong code of balance, ensuring the forces of life and death are kept in check.

According to the legends, Captain Necroshade is eternally questing to break his curse and return to his human form. They say his salvation is in the destruction of the necromancer's skull and the forgiveness of the spirits he controls.
