In July, incoming editor Hannah Murphy Winter said she was going to fire everybody; now we know that she wasn’t joking

Back in July 2024, Noisy Media bought The Stranger from Index Media. Noisy is owned primarily by former state representative Brady Walkinshaw (who I’ll always remember as the Capitol Hill representative who lost his job because he refused to support rent control; who did he think his voters were?!).

Brady brought in new editor Hannah Murphy Winter to replace Rich Smith (who was advocating for a journalist union).

In their getting to know you “Welcome to The Stranger” profile, this was the first question they asked:

Hello, are you going to fire all of us?

Yep.

I find this horrifying.
