Need advice on the Mikiri counter on PS4 controller

Fighting asshat Genichiro and my Mikiri counters are only working about half the time. I've heard from other Redditors that there may be some input lag on the PS4 controller - has this been anyone else's experience? I wait for the red dot to appear and then remove my fingers from the control sticks and hit O, but half the time I lunge forward. It works the other half of the time. What's up?
