Thoughts on meltdown videos from college students getting an F

I've seen a couple now where students are sobbing because they failed a class. The most famous is probably the guy talking about how he failed math the second times. He says he did this assignment, did that assignment, what else could he do? I can't help but think "did you pass the exams? Did you do those assignments correctly?" To me it seems like a kid who got used to doing the work and not much else mattering. Sur he doesn't understand the concepts but he kinda tried so he should pass right? This is the way we're preparing kids for college and all it's doing is kicking the F down the road until they're paying money for it.
