the irony of watsons

note: this may be applicable for one or two branches only but feel free to share your stories!

I have been an active customer of watson's for years. I was used to salesladies following me as I roam around the store and I always make sure to be conscious looking around since I know that they have a policy of once an item breaks, you buy it. I did not know I would be a victim of it until today.

I went to stop by at a local watsons today to purchase an item on sale since I knew the sale would only last until today. First thing I noticed was that the security guard was following me around? Which was weird because I came from work and I just know I do not look suspiscious at all. I also roamed around to check out some items and found quickfx's acne pen on the selves. I grabbed one to check the ingredient list and didn't realize that there were multiple pens lined up behind it and the box holding all of it together was not taped. So when I pulled the pen out the weight of all other pens fell forward with the box. All other products next to the pens were leading or touching the box so a lot of the products also fell. This resulted to one product breaking because it was apparently glass.

I didn't notice the breakage at first so I quickly returned the items knowing that there were a lot of people coming in the store and left to pay since I didn't want to wait in line for too long. The security guard following me suddenly approach and told me to pay for the product that broke. I told him it was not my fault that the items were inappropriately placed when I just wanted to check out one item.

The situation later on escalated because I did not appreciate how he was talking down on me and I later on expressed my thoughts to the manager telling him that if they had such policy then they should've thought more on how they placed the items especially when there were a lot of students coming in. It's like they're just hoping for us to break something so that we'll pay for it.

I still had to paid for the item bc it was 'store policy' :D

pangit kabonding ng watsons. btw, the 'glass' that broke was only the hard-plastic cover.

additional context: there were only two salesladies when i arrived and they looked busy with other customers so i could not call for assistance. no, i did not go on a rampage inside the store. i talked to the staffs calmly despite having the security guard following me raising his voice, accusing me of the breakage. the situation only escalated to the point of having me talk to the manager because it looked like they would not do anything about the problem unless i raise it to the manager directly

edit: i forgot to add but i was more than willing to pay naman for the product kasi inisip ko baka sign na yun ng universe na bumili nako ng moisturizer kasi paubos na yung akin ngayon. the main reason talaga why i had to talk to the manager was because of how the security guard was blaming me so much for the breakage which i did not appreciate.
