Castlevania Noctune Season Two Thoughts (I have no friends who have seen it yet I HAVE to talk about it)
Okay, I'm sure multiple people have already made posts about Nocturne S2, but it's my turn. I finished the season at 2 am last night and I have not been able to think about anything else other than Castlevania Nocturne. Everything I've done, every game I've played, video I've watched, chapter I've read have all paled in comparison to how I felt watching Castlevania Nocturne Season Two.
In short, this HAS to be one of my favorite seasons of any show I've seen of the decade so far. I mean literally every single aspect of Season Two has me in awe. I am a MASSIVE Castlevania fan across both the games and the shows and Castlevania Nocturne has made me adore this series more than I thought I could. This show broke my love barrier on one of my favorite franchises of all time, I mean how is that even possible?
Firstly, I HAVE to talk about the characters this time around. The characterization in season two is honestly the best it's been since season two of the first show. I think the writing on literally every one of these characters was genuinely some of the best I've seen. There was not a moment that went by in this season where I thought that someone was acting rash or out of character. All the incredible characterization present before during season one is just completely heightened during this season. You can tell that the writers were really hitting their strides in the writing room. Juste and Maria especially to me were written EXPERTLY this season. Juste had such an incredible turnaround this season, the way he was written was amazing to me. You could feel his vulnerability when speaking to Maria, speaking directly from his heart and attempting to not let this teenage girl's life get away from her, to make sure she holds onto her life. And Maria is INCREDIBLE this season. Going into the season I didn't think I was going to like Maria that much because of her "turn to the darkside" but I found that to be one of the best moments of the season. Not only did it boost Juste's ability to be a phenomenal character, but I feel Maria also greatly benefitted from going through that mini-arc. It showed just how dangerous Maria truly can be and that she needs people like Juste or Richter there for her to make sure she is not compelled to return to that dark place, that incredibly horrible place.
Obviously, you **HAVE** to give your flowers to Powerhouse Animation Studios. It is a REQUIREMENT when watching this show to completely lose yourself in how amazing it looks. The attention to detail in every single frame is spectacular. I mean I didn't think it was physically possible for the animation to get better than what it was before, but somehow they changed my mind. How the animation improved so greatly from a product I already considered to be the best looking animation style I had ever seen I've absolutely no idea. The fact that they put this together in just TWO YEARS is INCREDIBLE. This is animation that I would've thought would take double that time at least.
And this does go semi-inhand with the animation, but the action choreography in this season was SPECTACTULAR, the best I've seen in recent years. Every single movement was incredibly fluid and nothing that any of these characters did during these fights felt like something unreasonable or that they wouldn't do in a fight. I loved watching the hyper-details disappear in a scene and the framerate drop because I KNEW that I was in for something special. The final fight especially and the final slaying Drolta is particularly spectacular. How Drolta's body begins to crack every time Richter lands a blow on her; The way Alucard gives Richter his sword and Richter's magic infuses with the blade, making it bigger and glowing, and then in one fell swoop swings his blade and the camera turns to the building behind her standing still for but a fleeting moment before falling apart, then panning back to Richter looking soulessly on at her and his frame splitting in half just to cut to Drolta's body splitting apart and then the pan to the Castlevania moon OH MY GOD THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD.
Literally EVERY SINGLE ASPECT of this show is peak. I cannot believe that this is something that imperfect human hands could craft and imperfect human minds could think of. I love this show and this franchise with all of my heart, and there is NOTHING I take fault with in this season. Absolute cinema.
EDIT: I completely forgot to mention, when speaking on the characters, Alucard. During the second to last and final episode of the season I noticed Alucard was kinda speaking in a lower tone and I found that a bit weird. Then watching him get the blood red eyes that Dracula would get when he’s really mad and watching him perform the same meteor move Dracula used on him and Trevor in season two of the original show was MINDBLOWING!!! This show is incredible bro 😭
