Need advice on planning an international ski trip

I’m living in Japan now and I’m planning on going to Quebec, Canada next winter.

Canada is famous for winter sports and I got into skiing 2 years ago, only domestically in Japan, so I figured I’d try out the slopes while exploring La Belle Province. The plan is to spend 2 days skiing, one close to Montreal and one in Mont-Sainte-Anne. I want to ask some questions:

  1. Would it be cheaper to check in skis, ship them over before I arrive, or rent them when I arrive?

  2. I am an Anglophone non-Canadian that can speak 3 (maybe 4) languages but French is not one of them. I can barely introduce myself in French but know the basics like “bonjour”, “excuse moi”, “s’il vous plait”, and “merci”. Is this enough to get me around the ski resort or will I need a lot of Google Translate and charades?

Any other advice is welcome!

Edit: I’ve come to the decision that Tremblant is too difficult to get to so I’m looking for any alternative places to ski close to Montreal.
