Why so much fear mongering about the Custom X?
As an experienced rider, the Burton Custom X has always been a board I’ve had my eye on. But every time I dive into research (mostly on Reddit), it seems like every post exaggerates its performance, with comments like, “If you don’t ride it, it’ll ride you,” or “This board will kick your ass!” or “It’ll throw you around the mountain if you don’t pay attention.” While I get a laugh from the over-the-top reactions, it honestly feels like no one is speaking from genuine experience or they’re just beginner riders passing along exaggerated tales.
That said, I was looking for a new board to complement my Burton Skeleton Key, and I ended up pulling the trigger on a regular Burton Custom. Now I’m having some buyer’s remorse, second-guessing whether I should’ve gone with the X, and kind of annoyed at myself for getting sucked into the hype.
So, for anyone who’s actually ridden the Custom X—can you shed some light on whether all those stories are really true, or is it more fear-mongering than anything?
Update: cancelled my order and replaced it with a Custom X! Updates to come on how it rides, but yfrom reading the comments seems it’ll be a pretty normal ride for someone like myself who’s been boarding for 20 years haha
Update 2: first day out with the X and I love it! Conditions are groomed and it’s snowing. Totally manageable board. Very confused why a lot of ppl acted like it’s a torture device
