After Hitler died, Karl Dönitz would be his successor. Dönitz would serve just 10 years in prison after being convicted of crimes against peace and war crimes. Unusually Dönitz had only joined the Nazi party in 1944, but he was a fervent and unrepentant Nazi. He died in 1980 aged 89.
