The Danes love to talk…to each other

Maybe it's just that Danes go to restaurants in bigger groups. In the UK, when I just eat out with my immediate family, there will be periods where we don't speak much as we are eating, whereas if you invite your immediate family and grandparents and your favourite uncle or aunt then there will be chatter the entire time as there are older folk which are likely to eat at a slower pace therefore more time to chat, unlike us younger folks.

I think it’s a mix of silence being perceived as uncomfortable and maybe like… Dane’s aren’t exactly the most outgoing, when it comes to strangers (if you compare to many other Europeans, other than other nordics lol), so maybe all that pent up energy finally gets an out when you’re with friends etc. 🤷‍♀️ Plus, I bet a lot of people “catch up since last time”, because it might’ve been a while, like I probably find time for social interactions with some of my best friends like twice a month, at most. A lot can happen in that time = a lot to talk about

Yes you can walk in to any bar or pub in the uk and make a friend, in that sense they are very open to conversation, which probably wouldn’t happen regularly in Denmark 😂 although it seems that the danish are better at holding the convo when they know each other. Maybe the English are more relaxed in how they perceive the silences! It’s all very interesting! :)
